The Education Technology team has pulled together a few resources and tools that can be used to support your communication with students and engagement with your course materials within the learning management space. Please contact eto@framingham.edu if you need additional support to implement these resources.

Class Discussions may be managed using the Blackboard Discussion Board tool. (The good news too is that everyone student has the opportunity to voice their ideas and opinions. Blackboard will also block a view of the board until the student makes their post, if you select this option.) Other uses: Guest speakers, moderated real time or asynchronous discussions, debates, and peer comments.

This user-friendly website features an overview of the course Discussion Board tool, including how to create discussion spaces (forums), participate in conversations, and provide students with feedback on their responses.

This webpage provides information on using the Blackboard Discussion Board tool from a student’s perspective.  If your students are unfamiliar with using the Discussion Forum tool, they may find it helpful to review this information.  The URL is

Lectures and Classroom conversations may be facilitated with Blackboard’s Collaborate tool. We do suggest meeting with a member of ETO in advance of using this tool, but it can be setup from within your Blackboard course site if you wish to give it a try. Other uses: facilitate interactive online course activities, such as live lectures, review sessions, and online office hours.
